'Generational change': Josh Kerr and Dane Gagai deliver passionate pleas for All-Stars fixture to continue

Indigenous All Stars forward Josh Kerr has delivered a passionate plea for the spectacle to stay after his side's disappointing loss on Saturday night.

The future of the All Stars spectacle is a constant debate within the NRL with players withdrawing or having it count towards their suspensions.

Speaking after the loss, Kerr, playing his seventh consecutive match for the Indigenous side called for the event to stay.

"I don't know how they could talk about ever getting rid of this game," he said.

"It's so much more than just a game of footy this week, it reaches so many young kids. We spoke about it in the week, if we can just change one kid's life, that's generational change."

NRL great, Dane Gagai, who has represented the Maori and Indigenous sides echoed the words of Kerr.

"Obviously we get to celebrate the great game of rugby league but more importantly we get to celebrate two great cultures," he said.

"... I don't know where this game is going with timing next year but I'd love to see this game played a bit more and I'd love to play it more."
