NRL’s big move to avoid AFL grand final clash
The NRL has avoided a scheduling clash with the AFL grand final and given the rival code clear air on Saturday afternoon next week.
The NRL on Thursday morning released the draw for its NRL and NRLW preliminary finals, kicking off on Friday night, September 25 with the Dolphins hosting either the Roosters or Sharks at Suncorp Stadium.

The following day, only one NRLW preliminary final will be played – a night game in Sydney where the Roosters will play.
It means the AFL’s afternoon grand final will have no competition from rugby league.
On Sunday, September 27, the second NRLW and then NRL preliminary finals will be played.
The NRLW game will be held on the Gold Coast given the Titans are hosting, while the NRL game will be in Sydney with the Panthers facing either the Knights or Warriors.
The NRLW semi finals kick off this Friday night with the Tigers facing the Raiders.
On Saturday afternoon, the Broncos take on the Knights.
Next week the Roosters will face the lowest ranked winner from the semi finals, while the Titans will host the highest ranked winner.
The NRL and NRLW grand finals will both be played in Sydney on Sunday, October 4.
All finals games will be broadcast live and free on Nine and 9Now.
