Detroit Lions star Aidan Hutchinson suffers gruesome leg injury in huge win over Cowboys

Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson was carted off the field with a serious injury to his left tibia after a sack on rival quarterback Dak Prescott.

Hutchinson's leg appeared to snap when it collided with the left leg of teammate Alim McNeill as Hutchinson was pulling the Cowboys playmaker to the ground.

The 24-year-old will stay in Dallas for surgery according to Lions coach Dan Campbell, who confirmed the diagnosis after the side's massive 47-9 win on Monday (AEDT).

Detroit were leading 34-6 at the time of the injury to Hutchinson, who entered the game as the NFL leader in sacks with 6.5 for the season.

There was a delay of 10 minutes as medical personnel tended to Hutchinson while players from both teams made a large circle around the No.2 draft pick from 2022.

After Hutchinson was loaded onto a cart with a cast on his leg, teammates and Dallas players reached over to pat the 24-year-old.

Ironically, Prescott sustained a similar injury on the same field four years ago.

In more positive news for the Lions, who are among the leading contenders for the Super Bowl, quarterback Jared Goff threw for 315 yards and three touchdowns.

David Montgomery had two rushing TDs for the Lions, who improved their record to 4-1.

Prescott threw two interceptions in the worst home loss since 1988 for the Cowboys, who have now lost all three of their games at AT&T Stadium this year.
