Eye-watering amount one trainer earned from Melbourne Cup
Ciaron Maher became emotional on Tuesday when speaking about spending so much time away from his family.
But his hard work paid off in a big, big way when he became the first horse trainer in history to clinch the trifecta of the Lexus Melbourne Cup.

Maher’s favourite Point Of Law won the great race, while stablemates Zahrann and Juja Kibo filled out the multiples in the $10.2 million Flemington feature.
To top if off, four more Maher runners made it past the finish line to ensure the 45-year-old master horseman filled his pockets on Australian racing’s biggest day.
Ciaron Maher Racing is the biggest stable in Australia and has six facilities across Victoria and New South Wales.
His achievements on Tuesday will go down in history and his earnings from the Melbourne Cup alone are simply eye-watering.
Trainers are paid a flat rate by connections to stable and work each horse, but they also take home 10 per cent of prize money earned on race day – jockeys take five per cent and owners get the rest.
Of the $10.2m up for grabs in the great race, this is how much Maher earned in prize money from one race alone.
