Almandin wins great duel to claim Melbourne Cup
Almandin has claimed one of the great finishes in Melbourne Cup history after winning the ‘race that stops the nation’.
The Robert Hickmott-trained gelding went stride-for-stride with Heartbreak City down the straight before winning the battle to the line.
The victory was jockey Kerrin McEvoy’s second win in the cup but made businessman Lloyd Williams the most successful owner in the great race’s history. (AAP)
