Signing off from a dramatic final

Sam Worthington

That wraps up our coverage of a crazy Champions League final, as Paris Saint-Germain finally get their hands on the coveted trophy.

It is well worth a re-watch on Stan Sport as PSG trounced Inter Milan 5-0 in the biggest winning margin in the tournament's rich history.

Stay tuned to Wide World of Sports for all the fallout.

PSG routs Inter to win Champions League for first time

James Robson

Paris Saint-Germain, Champions League winner.

At long last the club that was transformed by Qatari billions and bought and sold a succession of the world's greatest players in an extravagant bid to get to the top has its hands on the big one.

Europe's grandest prize has a new home after PSG thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 in the final in Munich.

The trophy that not even Lionel Messi, Neymar or Kylian Mbappe could deliver to the French club was finally claimed by Luis Enrique, the Spanish coach who has overseen PSG's shift from the era of 'Galactico' signings to one of genuine team building.

Fitting then that Desire Doue, the 19-year-old French forward emblematic of the club's new generation, was the chief inspiration on a balmy night.

He became the third teenager to score in a Champions League final, following Patrick Kluivert and Carlos Alberto.

Doue scored twice and set up another goal in little over an hour on the field before being substituted in the second half.

Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and substitute Senny Mayulu, the fourth teenager to ever score in a final added to Doue's double as PSG recorded the biggest win in a final in the Champions League's 69 year history.

Now PSG can truly sit alongside the royalty of European football.

Not by virtue of turnover or merchandising, but on the merits of its achievements on the field.

The Champions League is the ultimate barometer of the continent's elite clubs and up until now PSG has been a flashy contender that always came up short.

That all changed at Allianz Arena, the home of Bayern Munich, one of the titans of Europe, and a fitting stage for PSG's crowning moment.

Not least because it was against Bayern that it lost its only other Champions League final in 2020, leaving Neymar in tears in an empty stadium in Lisbon where fans were locked out because of the pandemic.

On this occasion, thousands of PSG supporters were there to revel in the moment, waving flags, lighting flares and drowning out their rivals from Inter, many of whose supporters left the stadium long before the final whistle.

They'd been partying in the streets of Munich throughout the day, but that was nothing compared to the scenes of joy when Marquinhos held the trophy aloft in front of teammates, with fireworks and golden confetti exploding behind them.

PSG truly delivered when it mattered after so many setbacks in this competition.

If there were any nerves from Luis Enrique's players it did not show as they dominated Inter from the start.

It took just 12 minutes for the French champion to go ahead with a move of speed and precision when Vitinha's threaded pass into the box found the feet of Doue.

The forward could have shot, but instead slid in Hakimi to tap into an open net.

Former Inter player Hakimi's celebrations were muted but PSG's fans erupted.

Eight minutes later and the lead was doubled - though this time it relied more on luck than precision as Doue's shot from the right of the box deflected off Federico Dimarco and past Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

He got his second in the 63rd minute, sliding the ball into the bottom corner when through on goal.

Kvaratskhelia added a fourth 10 minutes later and Mayulu then found the back of the net in the 86th, just two minutes after coming on to add his name to the list of teenage scorers in a final.

FULLTIME: PSG 5, Inter 0 in 'astonishing' final

Sam Worthington

Paris Saint-Germain have won their first ever Champions League title, destroying Inter Milan 5-0 in the final in Munich.

It's the biggest ever margin in a Champions League final.

"Absolutely astonishing," Mark Bosnich says on Stan Sport.

"It could have been 10," adds Craig Foster.

It's Luis Enrique's second Champions League win as a manager, having already done it with Barcelona.

"I've watched a lot of finals and I've never seen anything like that," Mark Pougatch says from Allianz Arena.

"They absolutely humilated them."

The scary thing is they may well get better from here.

Pougatch notes that Desire Doue is viewed in France as a better player than Kylian Mbappe was at 19.

Extraordinary PSG lead 5-0 in Munich

Sam Worthington

PSG aren't done yet!

Another ridiculously talented French 19-year-old is now on the scoresheet and this time it's Senny Mayulu.

Inter Milan are pleading enough as PSG lead 5-0.

Extraordinary.

PSG have FOUR against demoralised Inter

Sam Worthington

PSG now have FOUR against a demoralised Inter Milan!

The pace and movement is all too much and substitute Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has got on the scoresheet with a superb left footed finish.

They have had to wait a long time for their first Champions League title but they are doing it in style.

The last team to win a Champions League final by four goals was AC Milan when they pumped Barcelona 4-0 in 1994.

Inter fans are in tears.

A tough night out.

Teenager grabs double as PSG fans start to party

Sam Worthington

Game, set, match - surely.

Uber-talented teenager Desire Doue has grabbed a double as the PSG fans start to party.

It was a cool, low, clinical finish from the 19-year-old and he has picked up a yellow card for his wild celebrations.

What an emphatic performance from Luis Enrique's men.

It's 3-0 after 63 minutes as Doue now makes way for France international teammate Bradley Barcola.

Not a bad option to bring on.

Inter ring changes in search of breakthrough

Sam Worthington

Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi has rung the changes in search of a breakthrough early in the second half.

Federico Dimarco - who had a tough night - and Benjamin Pavard have been pulled with Yann Aurel Bisseck and Nicola Zalewski now on the pitch.

Zalewski's first impact is to receive a yellow card.

And now Inzaghi has also copped a yellow for his over the top complaints to the officials.

Not going well for the Italians and PSG lead 2-0 after 58 minutes.

Lehmann whacks 'cautious' Inter

Sam Worthington

The Stan Sport team are justifiably full of praise for PSG, with Mark Bosnich calling it one of the best halves he has seen in a Champions League final.

But Arsenal great Jens Lehmann has also given a good whack to Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi for inviting trouble with his three centre back system.

"I think it's his personality," Lehmann said.

"He was a striker, but as a coach he's super, super cautious. And if you're cautious, I think in my mind you don't win and I said that before.

"If you play a three at the back which by numbers says 'oh we're braver.'

"But in reality it's a five (with two wing backs) and five at the back, you don't really understand what you're doing."

HALFTIME: PSG 2, Inter 0

Sam Worthington

PSG are on the brink of their first Champions League trophy as they lead Inter Milan 2-0 in the final in Munich.

Achraf Hakimi and Desire Doue are the goal scorers.

"Devastating performance. Got everything right. Inter have got to make changes here or it could get really, really ugly," Mark Bosnich said on Stan Sport.

"Their (PSG) passing has been absolutely outstanding."

Dembele nearly kills off the final

Sam Worthington

That was oh so close to being 3-0 PSG.

Ousmane Dembele got in behind Federico Dimarco but the superstar was unable to finish from close range past Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

It remains 2-0 as halftime approaches.
