Tel upbeat after cracking goal
Spurs star Mathys Tel has spoken to Paramount+ after that win over Sydney FC on penalties.
He scored a brilliant free kick in the first half.
“Yeah, it was a good goal. I also want to congratulate the team because we worked and we fought to the end, even in a friendly game. We just keep going all the time, and yeah, I’m very happy about it,” Tel said.
“(Sydney) play very well on the ball. They played also very well off the ball. It wasn’t that easy to play against them but yeah, they showed a good level tonight.”
Tel is also confident that Spurs can climb the Premier League ladder after finishing 17th last season.
“I learned from mistakes. I learned from losing games, losing anything, just learned from the mistakes and tough moments - they help you to become a better player.”

Spurs celebrations muted after patchy display
Spurs celebrations are understandably muted after that patchy display, winning on penalties after failing to beat Sydney FC over 90 minutes.
It will be a slight concern for Roberto De Zerbi as he builds towards the Premier League opener against Brentford on August 23 (AEST).
Spurs had beaten A-League champions Auckland City 2-0 at Eden Park on Sunday.
They face a step up against Chelsea at Accor Stadium on Saturday.

New Sydney import shocks Spurs with equaliser!
New Sydney import Takahiro Sekine has shocked Spurs with the equaliser!
The 31-year-old from Japan is making his first start for Sydney, and he did well with a smart finish.
But it was a disastrous defensive touch from his compatriot Kōta Takai that put him through on goal.
He couldn’t have put Sekine through any better if he was trying to.
It’s 1-1 after 55 minutes and the big names from Spurs have some work to do!

Big signing Tonali enters the fray
Big Spurs signing Sandro Tonali enters the fray at halftime as Mathys Tel makes way.
Midfielder Tonali has played 32 times for Italy and Spurs paid Newcastle United more than $190 million for his services.
The money is absolutely nuts.
He will be happy to be on the park as he was looking chilly on the sidelines in the 13 degree weather.
Luca Williams-Barnett and Kota Takai are also on the park with Lucas Bergvall and Ben Davies the others to make way.

Macallister’s audacious attempt goes wide

The 19-year-old Sydney FC talent spotted Spurs goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka well off his line and tried to lob him from inside his own half.
The ball sails wide, but it wasn’t far away.
And Macallister has again gone close without quite finding the right connection!
Macallister is the son of long-time A-League striker Dylan.
