Foord's verdict on Asian Cup preparation

Lachlan Harper

The Matildas had a chance tonight to show what they can do against an Asian nation with the major tournament just under a year away.

Caitlin Foord admitted both sides won't be the same come March next year.

"I think it's early days, the tournament's a few months away and I think teams are probably building and trying to figure out what works so these are the games to try and do it," she told Paramount+.

"I think come the tournament we're not going to get a South Korea we got today and you're not going to get an Australia you saw today.

"It's that building phase but for us we wanted to come into these games and really focus on the Asian Cup because we've got a chance against an Asian nation. We wanted to really make the most of it and I think we did that over these two games."

Fowler speaks after win

Mary Fowler was a standout for the Matildas tonight with her solitary goal.

She featured out wide at Newcastle, similar to her role at Manchester City and admitted that was part of the tactic.

"I think I've just played there quite a bit at club so I feel quite comfortable there, I know the role really well so it was nice getting to play out there a bit and be a bit more consistent in that role for the national team," she told Paramount+.

Caitlin Foord has been so effective!
