FIFA World Cup 2022: Football's biggest superstars who won't be at Qatar
Who isn't going to the World Cup?
Paul Pogba, Mo Salah, and Erling Braut Haaland are among the biggest names not going to the 2022 World Cup.
We've made a squad of 26 players, using no more than two per nation, of some of the game's stars who'll have the next month off.
Goalkeeper: Gianluigi Donnarumma (Italy)
The PSG number one was the standout keeper at last year's Euros, but with Italy being stunned in the qualifiers by North Macedonia, he will be watching the tournament from home.
Left-back: Kieran Tierney (Scotland)
Scotland were runners up in their group but couldn't navigate their way through the play-off stage, losing to Ukraine in a sudden death semi-final, leaving Tierney (and another Scottish left back on the bench in this squad) missing out.
Centre back: Fikayo Tomori (England)
One of the more controversial omissions in Gareth Southgate's team, the former Chelsea defender moved to Italy two seasons ago and has positioned himself at the heart of one of the best defences in that country - but was left out of the final 26-man squad for England.
Centre back: Sergio Ramos (Spain)
The veteran defender is regarded as one of the finest centre backs of the modern era, but was left out of the Spain squad.
"The World Cup? Of course, it was one of those great dreams I had to fulfil," Ramos said on social media when the team was confirmed.
"It would have been my fifth, but unfortunately I'll have to watch it at home."
Right-back: Reece James (England)
Arguably the deepest position England has, but the Chelsea man's form at club level had him expected to be in the squad, and potentially even start in Qatar - instead, a knee injury in October will see him miss the tournament.
Midfield: N'Golo Kante (France)
Any football fan knows just how good Kante is, but after suffering a serious hamstring injury in August, he will be out until January.
Midfield: Martin Odegaard (Norway)
The Arsenal captain has had his best season to date, but with Norway's qualifying campaign falling short, he will not be involved.
Midfield: Paul Pogba (France)
One of the most talented players in world football, Pogba scored in both France's opener against Australia in 2018 and in the final, but will miss out this time due to having surgery on his right knee in September.
Left wing: Sadio Mane (Senegal)
An unfortunate late inclusion to this team, Mane was given as much time as possible to prove his fitness for Senegal, but it was confirmed just three days before the tournament that he would not feature due to a leg injury.
