Contenders to replace Ange Postecoglou as Socceroos coach
Graham Arnold
If the FFA decides to elect a local coach then the Sydney FC mentor is definitely the favourite. Arnold already has experience in the position having served time as national coach in an interim and full-time role. Arnold didn't have much luck in the 2007 Asian Cup campaign but his stint in the A-League with Central Coast and Sydney FC has seen his stocks rise. Also has World Cup experience when he served as an assistant to Pim Verbeek in South Africa.
Tony Popovic
Popovic has long been seen as a potential national coach after his successful stint at the Western Sydney Wanderers. But he may not be seen as an ideal candidate since leaving the Wanderers in October to move to Turkish side Karabukspor. However his time in Turkey might be limited with his side languishing in the relegation zone and reported dramas in the boardroom at the club which could open up an opportunity for the former Socceroo.
Ante Milicec
Milicec was appointed Olyroos coach this week and received a glowing endorsement from Ange Postecoglou in the past. The 43-year-old has had assistant manager roles at the Melbourne Heart and the Wanderers and appears to have the respect of many within Australian football.
Josep Gombau
Gombau was recently appointed head coach of the Western Sydney Wanderers and is highly respected. The Spaniard won the FFA Cup during his time in Adelaide and was also successful guiding the Australian U/23's.
Kevin Muscat
An aggressive and passionate coach, Muscat is seen as someone who wears his heart on his sleeve. But there's no doubting his experience as a player in the national side, having racked up 46 caps for the Socceroos. Muscat has also proved his worth in the coaching department since taking over Melbourne Victory in 2013 leading them to an A-league and FFA title.
Gianni de Biasi
The veteran Italian was touted as a possible candidate when rumours started to spread that Postecoglou leave. He has years of experience on the international stage after guiding Albania recently. He took them to the 2016 Euros in France before quitting. He is the current coach of Spanish side Alaves.
