Megan Schutt was denied the "perfect" start to her Ashes campaign when replays revealed a costly no-ball against England.

The star quick thought she had dismissed Maia Bouchier with just the second ball of the first ODI at North Sydney Oval on Sunday, after forcing the opening batter to play onto her stumps.

The hosts erupted in celebration with Schutt, while Bouchier began to walk off.

"Bowled her, chopped on," Mel Jones said on Fox Cricket.

"Australia start the 26th Ashes series in the most perfect way."

However, after a brief delay, Bouchier was called back to the crease after replays showed Schutt overstepped the front line by the barest of margins.

"That's the adrenaline rush at the start of an Ashes series," Jones said on commentary.

"All that excitement has turned to complete and utter disappointment."

The blunder didn't prove too costly for the Aussies after Kim Garth sent Bouchier on her way a few overs later for 9 off 15 deliveries.

Garth also took a catch off Annabel Sutherland's bowling to dismiss England's other opener Tamsin Beaumont for 13.
