The West Indies are in pole position to win the first cricket Test against Sri Lanka after closing day three with a 360-run lead.

The tourists were dismissed for 185 in reply to 8(dec)-414 before the hosts reached stumps on 4-131.

Sri Lanka started day three in a precarious position at 3-31 and were left in a worse state in the third over of the day when Kemar Roach bowled Roshen Silva for five.

Niroshan Dickwella and Dinesh Chandimal steadied the ship with a fifth-wicket partnership of 78, but the latter holed out off Shannon Gabriel six short of his half-century to leave Sri Lanka on 5-121.

Unlike the Windies' lower order, the Sri Lankan salvo never got going as they were mopped up in less than an hour after lunch.

The Windies could have enforced the follow-on but decided to bat again with Kieran Powell finishing the day 64 not out off 80 balls, bringing his fifty up with a big six off Dilruwan Perera, as his side built a commanding lead.
