Thunder re-sign WBBL winning coach

Women's Big Bash League champions Sydney Thunder have received a huge boost ahead of their title defence, with coach Jo Broadbent re-signing with the Twenty20 outfit.

Broadbent, one of Australian women's cricket's leading figures, steered the Thunder to victory in the inaugural WBBL last summer.

Broadbent said she was confident the Thunder would again be contenders when the second edition of the WBBL begins in December.

"We have a lot of diversity in the group," Broadbent said.

"The different ages and experience amongst the team is very unique. I've been involved in a lot of teams and the culture the Thunder has is just fantastic.

"The team really wants to grow together, not just as players, but as people and that's reflected in the strength of the club with both the men and the women really integrating."

Thunder general manager Nick Cummins welcomed the retention of Broadbent.

"It was a straight-forward decision and we are very pleased that Jo has chosen to continue as head coach and take on the challenge of defending our title," Cummins said.

"As one of Australia's most successful coaches we were really keen to secure Jo as our inaugural WBBL Head Coach.

"Jo has already established the Thunder as a formidable competitor in the WBBL and we look forward to her continuing her good work in WBBL02."

The Thunder kickoff WBBL02 against Melbourne Stars at North Sydney Oval on December 10.
