David Warner unleashes frustration on 'baffling' Cam Green dismissal

Former Australian Test opener David Warner has given ex-teammate Cameron Green a whack for his dismissal on day two of the Gabba Test.

The West Australian looked in great touch, racing to 45 alongside Steve Smith in the second Test.

However, after a spell of short bowling from Brydon Carse, which he was scoring consistently off, Green got sloppy.

He backed away to give himself space to attack a short ball, but was skittled by a Carse half volley.

It resembled the kind of wicket that would fall at the end of a T20 innings, with Green desperately trying to reach out as the ball cannoned into his stumps.

The wicket would spell the beginning of a mini-collapse for the Aussies. Smith fell in the same over and Josh Inglis not long after, weakening the firm grip they had on proceedings.

Warner didn't miss in his criticism of Green's dismissal.

"It's baffling, you're six-and-a-half foot tall, it's ridiculous to keep moving around like that and playing white-ball style cricket," Warner told Fox Cricket.

"But when you're so far away from your stumps, if he does (bowl) at the stumps you're not going to be able to reach it, which was his downfall.

"Every single ball, if you showed the bowler back, anyone with half a brain would go at the stumps."

Australia quickly fell from 3-291 to 6-329 in the final session.

Alex Carey and Michael Neser managed to steady the ship and make it to stumps, but not without some luck as England dropped catch after catch.

Green however also received lavish praise moments before his wicket fell, with former England captain Michael Vaughan labelling him a "perfect no.5".

"I don't see him as a three, but he looks perfectly made to bat at five, particularly if he's going to bowl overs as well," Vaughan said on Fox Cricket.

"I think, if you're going to bowl it's not easy to go out there straight away, and I think his technique will get challenged with the newer ball.

"A bowling attack in its third or fourth spell, he's destructive. He's the perfect five."

With Travis Head replacing Usman Khawaja at the top of the order, Green now has a chance to establish himself in Head's old role at five.

Carey was similarly promoted to six, showing the trust in his batting growth.

Australia will look to add to their lead on day three, with England needing an enormous day to keep their hopes of winning back the urn alive.
