Rain set to force SCG draw

Australia's underwhelming Test series against West Indies is set to end with a fizzle rather than a bang after day three of the SCG match was abandoned without a ball being bowled on Tuesday.
After showers swept across the SCG for most of the day, play was abandoned by umpires Ian Gould and Chris Gaffaney at 3.30pm, two hours before the scheduled close.
It is just the third time in 20 years in Australia an entire Test day has been lost due to adverse weather. Regardless a crowd of 7,752 was posted for Jane McGrath day.
After just 11.2 overs were bowled on a rain-affected day two on Monday, the final Test of the summer appears set to peter out in a draw.
A likely result that will come on the back of Australia's crushing innings and 212-run win in the first Test in Hobart and their four-day victory at the MCG.
Weather permitting the Windies will start day four on Wednesday at 7-248 in the 87th over. Denesh Ramdin is on 30 and Kemar Roach is yet to score. James Pattinson has claimed 2-67 for the Australians and Nathan Lyon has 2-78.
Coach Phil Simmons said West Indies were unlikely to make a double declaration in order to create an interesting game.
"Ha ha. I used to hear about that in county cricket. I don't know about it in a Test match," he said.
"We've got to see how much play we get tomorrow first. One side is telling me that there's showers again in the morning then it will brighten up. Now I've just heard there might be showers in the afternoon too.
"We just have to see what happens tomorrow and then go from there."
Allrounder Mitchell Marsh said it was a disappointing day three for the Australians.
"Today was very frustrating," he said.
"It is not very nice when you are expecting a big crowd for a great day and you get rained out."
"A result is up to the weather Gods. If we can get a full day's play tomorrow and the last day we will certainly be playing for a result."
