Usman Khawaja hits out at 'shocking' and 'categorically untrue' claims in ugly Queensland cricket feud

Usman Khawaja has taken aim at "shocking" allegations levelled against him by Queensland cricket bosses.
He fronted media in Brisbane on Friday, two days after being taken to task by Queensland cricket chief Joe Dawes, who said the Bulls were "disappointed" Khawaja attended the Formula 1 in Melbourne while his state team was playing a Sheffield Shield match.
The Bulls scraped a draw to qualify for the Shield final, which will be played next week against South Australia. Whether Khawaja is there remains to be seen.

Khawaja accused Dawes of creating a narrative that was "categorically untrue" after suggestions the player exaggerated a hamstring issue because he didn't want to play the match.
"For me, the most disappointing thing was I tried to keep this as in-house as possible, behind the scenes. It's obviously not anymore," Khawaja said, while sporting a Queensland Bulls shirt.
"Joe Dawes came out the other day and said a few inflammatory things, which was really disappointing to me as a player.

"After that I felt like I had to speak up and say something and give my side of the story.
"Joe said the medical staff had no idea (about my hamstring injury). That is 100 per cent wrong. I've talked to both our physios, the Australian physios.
"That was probably one of the most shocking things I've heard said, which was really disappointing, because it's categorically untrue. I just wanted to clear that up."
Dawes claimed he had no idea Khawaja had a hamstring issue.
"I go off our medical staff and there is no reason why he could not have played the last game," he said publicly on Wednesday.
"It's just disappointing he didn't play a game for Queensland when he had an opportunity to. I have got a bunch of blokes here that all want to play."

The insinuation was the 38-year-old skipped the Shield game because he wanted to attend the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
Queensland cricket great Ian Healy also took aim at Khawaja on his SEN radio show.
He suggested Cricket Australia should have forced Khawaja to make himself available for the Shield match, despite several other Test players not featuring in the tournament after returning home from Sri Lanka.
"When he gets into the environment he is fine. It's just this pick and choose mentality that has been evident in his later years that Queensland haven't been happy with," Healy said.
"Cricket Australia should feel a little under the pump with this... I spoke with them, and they weren't aware of Queensland's concerns with him not playing for Queensland, they wish we would have rung them earlier.
"It was the last round of the Sheffield Shield to get into the final… I wanted Cricket Australia to feel a little bit of heat for allowing that to happen."
Khawaja started his domestic career with New South Wales before switching to Queensland after the 2011/12 season.
