Tailender Corey Rocchiccioli leads WA to thrilling one-wicket win as Cameron Green provides positive update

Off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli emerged the hero for Western Australia in a tight one-wicket Sheffield Shield win over Queensland as Cameron Green gave his best indication yet he'll be fit for the first Ashes Test.

On Friday at the WACA Ground, WA was set 272 runs for victory with 90 overs to play on the final day.

Early on, batting looked easy for WA with Cameron Bancroft and Sam Whiteman combining for a 74-run partnership.

Bancroft's dismissal for 36 did little to stop momentum as Hilton Cartwright pushed to a solid 25 before he was gone at 2-113.

When Green (17) was gone it started to look awkward for WA and Cooper Connolly (2) followed him only three overs later.

Whiteman made 81 and was then sent packing by Gurinder Sandhu to make it 5-180.

By the time the ninth wicket fell, WA was 9-249 with a miracle needed between No.9 Rocchiccioli and No.11 Cameron Gannon.

Both men managed to keep it steady and by the 83rd over 10 runs were needed.

Michael Neser's first ball to Rocchiccioli reared up sharply off a shorter length but was luckily tucked down to fine leg for a boundary.

The fast bowler's next ball was full and straight but Rocchiccioli was good enough to flick it through mid-wicket for another four.

Suddenly the pressure was on Neser who bowled it full and wide outside off stump with Rocchiccioli driving off the back foot. The tail-ender managed to run two to seal victory before he pumped his fists towards the dressing room for the one-wicket win.

The previous day, Rocchiccioli took five wickets with his off spinners as Queensland was bowled out for 203.

While the hero was Rocchiccioli, all eyes were on Green throughout the match.

He bowled eight overs in both innings' and hit 94 in his first dig. The star all-rounder told 9news Perth he was happy with what he provided.

"I was pretty keen for some time in the middle which I got today which was nice," he said after his 17 on the final day.

"I felt really good, day one was a really hot day, that took a lot out of me but I felt really good in the second eight overs in the second innings.

"I think it's been a really great build up, there's obviously been a couple of hiccups but I've been trying to get to this stage where my body is at and I'm happy."
