Injury fears as Adelaide Strikers wicketkeeper Bridget Patterson floored by brutal bounce in loss to Sixers
Strikers wicketkeeper Bridget Patterson has escaped major injury after she was struck in the face after a horrible bounce in the Adelaide Strikers' 11-run victory over the Sydney Sixers.
Patterson was a vital member of the Strikers batting, smacking 44 off 32 as her side side set the Sixers a healthy target of 172 at North Sydney Oval.
In the fourth over, Superstar Ellyse Perry played and missed a Darcie Brown delivery. It bounced once more in front of Patterson, and reared up and struck her near the eye.

Patterson went to ground clutching at her face, and t here was blood visible near where she was struck. She was assisted on the ground by club medics, and was then assisted off the field.

She was taken into the Adelaide sheds for further medical attention, where she passed preliminary examinations.
"It was a nasty injury," Adelaide coach Luke Williams said post-match.
"Obviously, we were all worried about her, but it looks like she's escaped major injury.
"It certainly was nasty at the time with the cut."
Ellie Johnston donned the gloves for the remainder of the Sixers innings.

Patterson had earlier top scored, with support from Amanda-Jade Wellington (40) and Orla Prendergast (39).
In reply, Perry and Sarah Bryce put on 80 for the second wicket, before Bryce and Elsa Hunter put on 53 for the fourth wicket.
The Sixers needed 33 runs from the final four overs and still had seven wickets in hand, but lost six wickets for only 18 runs to fall 11 runs short.
The Strikers will face the Sydney Thunder at North Sydney Oval on Friday, with the first ball scheduled to be bowled at 3:45pm AEDT.
