'Hope he passes me': Glenn McGrath full of praise for Nathan Lyon ahead of SCG Test
Glenn McGrath has claimed he hopes Nathan Lyon surpasses him as Australia's second-highest wicket-taker in history, but conceded the all-time record of Shane Warne is unlikely to be broken.
The veteran off-spinner reached the 500-wicket milestone during the first Test against Pakistan last month, edging himself closer towards McGrath's career tally of 563 scalps.
Lyon has indicated he has no interest in slowing down, especially after an injury-hindered Ashes campaign, putting him in the box seat to move further up the ladder of Test wicket-takers.

Speaking to reporters prior to the Sydney Test - which will again support the Jane McGrath Foundation - the legendary seamer heaped praise on Lyon and believes his record speaks for itself.
"To me, records are there for people to break," McGrath said.
"If Lyono goes past, credit to him. He's had an incredible career. I wish him all the best, I hope he goes past me. That's what it's about.

"I'll still be the most wickets by a fast bowler, so at least I've got something up my sleeve."
McGrath formed an incredible combination with Warne while donning the baggy green, dominating batting line-ups across the globe and cementing themselves as two of the sport's most iconic stars.

And while Lyon's continued ascension is undeniable, he faces an uphill battle to surpass Warne's 708 Test wickets before hanging up the boots.
"Whether he gets to Shaneo, that might be a different kettle of fish," McGrath said.
"It's up to him. He's obviously bowling well, he knows the game so well. It's totally up to him."
Lyon will be part of an unchanged line-up against Pakistan in the final game of the series, with Australia holding an unassailable 2-0 lead.
