'Happy to bowl his overs': Australian spinner Nathan Lyon 'not concerned' despite Mitchell Marsh injury cloud

Nathan Lyon claims he is "not concerned" about Mitchell Marsh heading into the second Test - but admits he is keen to pick up the slack if the all-rounder isn't fit to bowl.

Marsh was in doubt to play in Adelaide due to an ankle concern, forcing selectors to bring Beau Webster into the extended squad this week.

However, according to the Aussie off-spinner, Marsh will be fit to play and potentially bowl in the pink-ball clash, which kicks off on Friday afternoon.

"I dare say you will see him [Marsh] bowl tonight," Lyon told reporters on Wednesday.

"I'm not concerned about Bison's fitness if I'm being honest, he's been brilliant for us. I've got full confidence in Bison and to be honest, I'm happy to bowl his overs.

"Marnus ran in and bowled seam-up the other day, but I honestly think we will see Mitch Marsh bowl - there you go.

"I'm very clear on my role within the team, so nothing really changes with me. If I get the opportunity to bowl more overs, I'll jump at it." 

Lyon bowled a mammoth 39 overs in the second innings at Optus Stadium, but his tireless effort with ball in hand wasn't enough to get the Aussies over the line.

In a major blow to their hopes of levelling the series, star seamer Josh Hazlewood won't be available due to a side strain which could see him miss the rest of the series.

"He was pretty disappointed the other day when he told me," Lyon said.

"The quality of person that Josh is, [is] he is getting around everyone and making sure that everyone is right here. He's the ultimate team man, to be honest.

"He puts everyone first and you will see that this week."

The second game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy begins on Friday afternoon.
