'Means a lot to me': David Warner confirmed as Sydney Thunder captain after leadership ban overturned
David Warner has been confirmed as Sydney Thunder captain for this year's BBL season, less than two weeks after his leadership ban was overturned.
The retired Test great has signed with the Big Bash franchise for the 2023/24 campaign and had been working tirelessly to get back into a leadership role. He has never been shy about captaincy ambitions.
Warner was given a lifetime suspension by Cricket Australia following the infamous ball-tampering scandal in 2018, but that was formally scratched in late-October.

The club has now confirmed Warner will lead the side in BBL|14, with the former Test star taking over the job from off-spinner Chris Green.
"Captaining the Thunder again this season means a lot to me," he said.

"I was part of the team from the start, and now to be back with that 'C' next to my name feels fantastic. I'm looking forward to leading from the front and sharing my experience with the young talent coming through.
"Leadership off the field is just as crucial. I want to create an environment where we can all take a break from the game, bond, and enjoy ourselves.
"Whether it's over a team meal, out on the golf course or engaging with our fans in western Sydney, it's all about building camaraderie and staying grounded."
Warner was at the forefront of the Big Bash during its formative years, but his continued international commitments saw him struggle to remain in the fold.
But with his time in the green and gold now finished, Warner is solely focused on helping the Thunder claim their second title and nurture the young talent in the squad.

"One of the most exciting parts of this role is the chance to give back to the younger players, to pass on some of the knowledge I've gathered over the years," he said.
"I want to help them grow so that one day, one of these young guns can step up and lead the team when I'm done.
"We have an incredible group of young players like Ollie Davies, Jason Sangha, and Sam Konstas. They're fearless and have so much potential.
"My goal is to guide them, help them learn the game, and ultimately give them the tools to thrive both in the BBL and beyond."
