England has handpicked one of Australia's most successful cricket coaches to take charge of its white-ball men's teams.

Matthew Mott will jump ship and head to the motherland to take charge of England's one-day and Twenty20 international sides.

His appointment comes days after New Zealand cricket great Brendon McCullum was named England's new Test men's coach.

A new-look England and Wales Cricket Board opted to split the men's coach role into two, following Chris Silverwood quitting as all-encompassing men's coach.

Silverwood was one of a number of casualties to fall on their swords, thanks in large to a disastrous trip Down Under where they lost the Ashes 4-0 to the Aussies.

Mott, though, only knows success as a coach.

He has been a driving force behind Australia's women's team becoming a sporting force over the last decade.

Under his watch Australia has won two Twenty20 World Cup titles, three Ashes series, two ICC Women's Championships, and the ODI World Cup.

"Matthew has played an instrumental role in the success of our incredible women's team, driving a team-first mentality, and creating an environment that's allowed the players to blossom into some of the world's leading cricketers," Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley said.

"Under Matthew's leadership, the team has claimed every major trophy on offer and importantly, has inspired kids across the country to pick up a bat and ball.

"He should be proud of the legacy he's helped create with our women's team."

Australia will now begin the hunt for a new women's coach.
