Game called off after nasty delivery

English county side Glamorgan has apologised for the dangerous pitch that led to a one-day match being called off over the weekend after a batsman was struck with a nasty delivery.

The Hampshire Hawks were 26-0 in response to Glamorgan’s total of 182-9 at Cardiff's Swalec Stadium when the game was halted.

Footage shows the final ball of the match from Australian seamer Michael Hogan rear off a length and hit Jimmy Adams in the grille.

EBC pitch selector Tony Bigott described the delivery as “pretty extreme” after the game was called off as a result of the inconsistent bounce following a discussion between the captains and umpires.

"One ball had slightly gone up and hit Michael Carberry earlier and there were a couple in the Glamorgan innings,” Bigott told BBC Radio Solent.

"Fortunately there's no damage done. If it goes again and it's doing it off that sort of length then it does fall into the officials' hands."

The lifeless pitch for the first Ashes Test at Swalec Stadium was criticised by both sides following England’s eight-wicket win.
