Ridiculous catch heralds new era for Oman at Twenty20 World Cup

There's something to be said for making an entrance and Oman's arrival at the Twenty20 World Cup was nothing short of spectacular.

Not only did the cricketing minnows emerge as the tournament's first giantkillers by stunning Ireland, but they kicked off the match with a sizzling catch that is being rated among the game's greatest.

Zeeshan Maqsood was fielding at cover when he showed cat-like reflexes to dive to his left and take a blinding one-handed catch to dismiss Ireland opener Paul Stirling.

The talented batsman had hit the ball so hard that Maqsood, despite being more than a pitch-length from the bat, had to take the ball behind his body.

Despite the degree of difficulty, Maqsood celebrated as if it was just another day at the office, casually throwing the ball away being before mobbed by his ecstatic teammates.

It was a special moment for Oman and one that will be treasured by cricket fans the world over, regardless of their allegiances.
