Badree: West Indies cricket needs 'help'

West Indian spinner Samuel Badree has issued a desperate plea for "help" from either the International Cricket Council or the governments of the West Indies to rescue the sport in the region.

An emotive Badree, who who will play in the Big Bash League this summer with the Brisbane Heat, said it was "deeply painful" that the once-mighty cricketing powerhouse had slumped to such a low ebb.

Rather than pointing fingers at the crisis-torn West Indies Cricket Board, Badree simply said an intervention into Caribbean cricket was desperately needed.

"That was one of the questions I wasn't really looking forward to, to be honest," Badree said when asked for his view on Friday.

"It's disappointing and deeply painful to be a player and to see the level we have reached.

"There has been a lot of conjecture about the reasons and I don't want to get into that - just to say that we need help.

"Whether it comes from the ICC or whether it comes from the governments of the West Indies, at the end of the day we need some help to get our cricket back on the right track."

Badree is one of two West Indian players signed for the Heat, along with former Test batsman Lendl Simmons.
