Hostile reception

Siraj cops a hostile reception from the ground and edges it first ball, but Carey spills the catch behind the stumps.

Cummins drops it in short to Bumrah and it takes the helmet before sailing up in the air and caught by Smith.

There was a bit of confusion in the middle before Australia opted to review, but the replays showed the ball clearly missed Bumrah's bat and glove.

Reddy isn't going to die wondering, hitting Boland down the ground for a boundary.

Cummins bowls a short one to Reddy and he smacks it over the square-leg rope for six runs, bringing the touring fans to their feet.

The next ball, Reddy tries to ramp a ball from Cummins but the ball finds McSweeney in the outfield and the Aussie skipper has five wickets.

Short-ball barrage pays off

Rana is peppered with a short-ball barrage from Cummins and Starc before he finally departs after skying a delivery from the Aussie skipper.

The fiery quick is sent packing for a duck.

"He couldn't play the short ball, it was a deliberate tactic," Kerry O'Keeffe said.

The skipper drops a few balls in short to Ashwin and he gloves it behind to Carey, who makes no mistakes with the catch.

"Too quick and not in control of the shot," Mark Waugh said on Fox Cricket.

"India are in big trouble."
