Zerafa’s harsh self-assessment after dominant comeback win

Alyssa Bone

Michael Zerafa’s redemption arc did not kick off in the way he hoped despite securing a dominant eighth-round stoppage victory over Alejandro Ortiz on Wednesday night.

Zerafa was back in the ring for the first time since his no result finish against Nikita Tszyu in January, but he was unimpressed by the display he delivered to win.

Teremoana to share stage with Joshua, Fury

Zachary Gates

Teremoana Teremoana dropped massive Australian boxing news after his second-round stoppage win over DeAndre Savage, revealing he will be fighting on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua-Tyson Fury bout.

Neither a date nor location are yet locked in for the long-awaited fight between superstar heavyweights Joshua and Fury, but it is expected the British rivals will square off late this year.

And Teremoana – the 121kg powerhouse who tonight extended his professional boxing record to 12-0 (12 knockouts) – will give the blockbuster showdown an Aussie flavour.

“I think what I’ve heard on the grapevine is I should be on the AJ and Fury undercard,” Teremoana told Ben Damon in the ring.

“Those are the old heavyweights giving up their mantle, so it’d be so good to get us new generation there and just show them us Aussies have the thunder from Down Under. Yeeeaaahhh!”

Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn confirmed his Aussie client would indeed be fighting on the Joshua-Fury undercard.

“That is definitely the plan,” Hearn said in the ring.

“We’ve got to step up the opposition.”

Meanwhile, Teremoana admitted he was miffed that Savage couldn’t get off the canvas and prolong the fight.

“The punches found their mark. I was hoping he was going to get up. Like, that annoys me,” the Paris 2024 Olympian said.

“But I’m looking forward to the challenges to come. Get up, let’s have a rumble, let’s get it on!”

Teremoana mauls American

Zachary Gates

Well, that was easy!

Teremoana Teremona has taken not quite a full two rounds to deal with DeAndre Savage.

The Aussie floored the American with a series of heavy blows to the head and his rival simply could not get up.

It’s another KO win for Teremoana, Australia’s 121kg heavyweight powerhouse.

He now has a professional boxing record of 12-0 – and every win has come by way of knockout!

Zerafa wins!

Michael Zerafa has stamped his comeback with a crushing victory.

The polarising Aussie boxer was a class above Venezuelan rival Alejandro Ortiz.

He knocked him down in the eighth round with a series of heavy blows, and although Ortiz got back up and finished the round, he bowed out while slumped over in his corner.

Zerafa in control

Zerafa is certainly in the box seat as the 10-round fight enters the eighth.

There’s little doubt the Aussie has a points advantage – and his rival is gassed.

“He has hit a wall,” former world champion Ted Cofie says in commentary.

Zerafa clips rival’s ‘ugly timing’

The broadcast captured Zerafa telling his trainer Ortiz had “ugly timing”.

Earlier in the fight, Zerafa’s trainer described the Venezuelan as “awkward”.

Ortiz is tall and has a long reach.
