Re-live: Canelo wins middleweight title in narrow win over GGG

Canelo Alvarez won the middleweight title by the narrowest of margins Saturday night, taking a majority decision over Gennady Golovkin to hand the longtime champion his first loss as a pro.

A year after the two fought to a draw, the second fight was almost as close. There were no knockdowns, but the action was spirited throughout as the two battled to the final bell before a frenzied crowd at the T-Mobile Arena.

Two judges favored Alvarez 115-113, while a third had it 114-114.

The two fighters switched roles, with Triple G trying to counter Alvarez and the Mexican fighter coming forward much of the fight. Both landed well to the head and Golovkin controlled some rounds with his jab though neither were ever in any trouble of going down.

"He's a great fighter but I'm a great fighter and I showed it tonight," Alvarez said.

Golovkin refused to do the obligatory post-fight interview with Max Kellerman.

As he walks to his dressing room, its plainly obvious GGG copped some damage with his face black and blues

Totally out of character for GGG and he's obviously salty about the result

When asked about the chances of another rematch with Golovkin:

"If the people want another fight then we can do it again. But at the moment I just want to enjoy the moment with my family and my people" - Canelo

Wouldn't be surprised and you'd find it hard to argue over that result

The crowd is on its feet and both fighters go hard in the last round

GGG slips and its ruled that way - the crowd thought it was a KO for a second

These dudes are slugging it out even though they're sooo buggered

GGG has a cut over his right eye both fighters grapple as they try to land the big ones in the last 10 seconds

They both embrace each other after the bell rings at the end of the 12th

There's a commotion in the ring now with some random dudes being handled by security

Canelo is up on the ropes like he's the victor

Canelo's temperament has changed he looks like he might be injured and GGG smells blood

But he still fights back when he has to - this is a nightmare to score

Both guys have slowed down and their movements aren't as crisp

Even though GGG is 7 years older he looks to be coming home strong

Canelo continues to counter-punch but GGG lifts the tempo late in the round

Just whenyou think Canelo is asserting his dominance GGG comes back with fury

Canelo lands a nice shot in the last minute as both guys throw huge shots

A clash of heads doesn't stop the onslaught
