The National Basketball League (NBL) has been forced to cancel a game due to four positive COVID-19 tests in one camp.

Four people in the travelling party of the New Zealand Breakers tested positive, prompting the league to abandon the NBL Blitz game against Illawarra scheduled for Thursday night.

The entire travelling party has been isolating since Sunday. As a result, both teams will receive three-and-a-half points towards the Blitz standings - the NBL's pre-season tournament.

"The health and safety of the players, coaches, clubs, staff and fans is the league's number one priority," the NBL said.

"The NBL will continue to follow the advice of governments and health authorities and further testing will be carried out on any individuals impacted or those deemed close contacts."

The NBL season proper begins in December.
