AFL Wildcard RECAP: Magpies legend signs off after heartbreaking knockout loss

Collingwood go down in an absolute thriller as the Western Bulldogs advance for another week of elimination finals action.

Bulldogs players pay their respects as well, lining up alongside the Magpies to give the retiring star a guard of honour as he heads up the tunnel.

Sloppy work in midfield from the Magpies, but they keep going on the attack.

Bulldogs defend the situation well and go up the other end, but can only come away with a behind – the worst possible outcome.

Collingwood get one final chance as Membrey takes a mark with 30 seconds to go.

He lines it up but sprays it just wide for a behind and the Bulldogs hang on to win 96-93 in the inaugural AFL wildcard game.

High drama in those final stages. Heartbreak for Collingwood.

After a ricochet in traffic, Naughton finds the pass to an open Artie Jones and he makes no mistake, kicking the goal and regaining the lead.

Bulldogs back in front. 95-92 with time running out.

Membrey takes a mark after some great counter work from the Magpies.

He nails the goal from a fair distance and tough angle and the Collingwood fans erupt as this final quarter continues to produce magic.

Three minutes to go and Pies lead by three.

Who else but Bont?

The Dogs star took the ball from the centre and went long inside 50.

Aaron Naughton took the mark and kicked the goal for the lead to change once again.

This is an incredible final quarter.

Collingwood is now in front!

Jack Crisp went back from 50 after the ball-up went their way and the Pies have the lead.

It wasn’t a convincing kick but Jordan De Goey has brought the margin back.

He had his positioning right and took a contested chest mark right in front of the posts.

His shot wasn’t particularly straight but it was good enough.

Cody Weightman has two goals now after a massive set shot to extend the lead!

The Dogs went back down inside 50 too and had a rushed behind.

So now the lead is nine points.

Collingwood’s Angus Anderson has two now!

The Pies quickly transitioned again before Anderson sent down a low shot from well outside 50 metres and it dribbled through the goal.

And wasn’t he happy about that!
