AFL trade period: Day six
How it works
The AFL trade period is a 10-day window where AFL clubs are allowed to trade players for each other or for draft picks. It runs until the evening of October 15, and usually sees around 30 players shift clubs each year.
Players who have been with their clubs for six years qualify for free agency and are allowed to change clubs freely without needing to be traded.

Here's what happened today:
Western Bulldogs traded a 2025 first-round pick (currently No.12) to GWS for a 2025 first-round pick (currently No.14) and a 2025 second-round pick (currently No.37).
Richmond traded Tylar Young to West Coast in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick (currently No.38)
Fremantle traded Will Brodie to Port Adelaide in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick (currently no.103)
Curnow deal starting to move forward
Tom Morris is reporting that Will Hayward is definitely open to a move as part of the Charlie Curnow trade.
Merrett backed to perform, no matter the outcome
Former Crows coach Brenton Sanderson believes Zach Merrett will be a professional if any trade doesn't go through.
The Merrett situation is currently at a stand still. Hawthorn's offer would need to be very juicy for Essendon to consider it.
However, Sanderson did say on AFL Trade Radio it would be hard to see him going forward as captain of the Bombers if he stays.
Can a Marshall and TDK combo work?
As it stands, St Kilda will have two ruckmen in Rowan Marshall and Tom De Koning.
The murmurs about a Marshall move to Geelong won't go away though.
Former Crows and Cats ruckman, Josh Jenkins doesn't see the combination working if Marshall stays.

Weird Brodie trade confirmed
Hawk linked with Merrett trade
Hawthorn defender Changkuoth Jiath has been floated as a player who could feature in the Zach Merrett trade.
Club and player are mutually open to him exploring a trade, according to AFL reporter Mitch Cleary.
He could also find a new home outside of Essendon as well.
Jiath was previously linked to Carlton, but that hasn't eventuated.

The Cats and Swans stars who could swing a Curnow trade
Carlton star forward Charlie Curnow clearly wants to leave the club, but the Blues will not move him unless the offer is exceptional.
They have limited interest in draft picks, particularly given the heavily compromised nature of this year's crop, and the likelihood that 2027's draft is swallowed up by the Tassie Devils.
They want players. And not just steak knife filler types, they want quality best 23 assets if they're going to give up Curnow.
