West Coast stars Harley Reid and Willem Duursma were captured sharing an emotional moment after their side’s loss to Richmond.

The two No.1 draft picks were spotted having a chat after the Tigers climbed off the bottom of the ladder with a 12.12 (84) to 9.19 (73) win over the Eagles.

Duursma, playing his first season in the AFL, appeared to be wiping tears from his eyes when his close mate Reid wrapped his arm around him.

“There’s the other side of things – Harley Reid and Willem Duursma are two great mates and Harley is just consoling him,” Corbin Middlemass said on Fox Footy.

Geelong champion Cameron Mooney appreciated the passion and care shown by both young men after a disappointing result.

“I love that, it shows what it means – they just wanna win,” he said.

“They will take this into the pre-season, push everyone around them and put everyone on their backs. [They will say] losing sucks and we don’t wanna take it.”

Duursma has showed glimpses of his undeniable potential in his first season, as the 19-year-old rookie follows in Reid’s footsteps at the Eagles.

Reid, the club’s $2 million marquee man, left behind his hothead on-field reputation against Richmond despite tensions threatening to boil over after a number of free kicks.

“He’s matured a little bit in that space,” Ben Dixon said on Fox.

“I like the fact he has matured. He’s rolling his sleeves up. It’s not going his way, but he’s not reacting … today we’re seeing a different Harley.”
