Richmond forward Mykelti Lefau has been caught drink driving, returning a blood alcohol reading over twice the legal limit.

Victoria Police informed The Age that a 27-year-old male driver blew the reading of 0.108 around 3am on Sunday in Malvern East.

They have said he has been issued with an infringement notice for drink-driving and will lose his license as well as being fined.

Lefau has also been suspended two games, though one will be absorbed by a practice game, and fined $2,500 by Richmond. He will undergo counselling as well.

Lefau played just one game in 2025, tearing his ACL in round 16's loss to Adelaide. He played 11 games in 2024.

Speaking at the AFL's Captain's Day on Monday morning, Richmond skipper Toby Nankervis said he had only recently been made aware of the incident, but was disappointed.

"I've been here (at Captain's Day) this morning and I've just been made aware of it now. The club will be working through it at the moment. I'll go to the club this afternoon and learn more," Nankervis told reporters.

"I've just heard about it and initially it is (disappointing). As I said, the club are working through that at the moment and I've been here this morning, I'll know more when I have those conversations this afternoon.

"We'll sit down together (as a club). When I know more information, we'll have those conversations longer on."

Lefau joined the Tigers via the 2023 pre-season supplemental selection period.

He was born in New Zealand before moving to Australia and playing for Casey in the VFL.
