'Could be curtains': Brendan Fevola ready for 'change' at Carlton as pressure mounts on Michael Voss

Brendan Fevola is unsure how much longer Michael Voss can survive in charge of Carlton, even if the under fire coach continues to disregard comments about his future.

Voss said on Tuesday that he is not paying attention to commentary around his future at Carlton is adamant everyone at the club is "aligned" for the season.

One win from four games to start the season has not been taken lightly by Carlton fans, with the pressure only mounting higher on Voss to get the team back on track.

The noise around his ability to do that with this squad has been enormous, even though football boss Chris Davies has weighed in and denied any coaching change.

Despite those comments made last week, Voss is fully focused on his job.

"I don't pay any attention to it," he said on Tuesday.

"At some point, you've just got to get on with the task at hand. That's what we're doing.

"I'm not distracted off anything other than just getting the best out of the team and supporting them as best we possibly can to make the progress we need."

Carlton have only been ahead in one of eight quarters before half-time so far and have also given up comfortable leads in their past two matches.

Fevola fears if Adelaide manage to claim the win over the Blues this week, things may not be looking good for Voss' future.

"You don't want to sack the coach because it is not all about the coach, it is about the players," Fevola, a Blues champion, told Nine's Footy Classified.

"But the way we've gone down in the last year and a half, I think it might be time for change.

"If the Blues can get up, it will keep Voss safe a little bit longer. If not, it might be curtains."

Fevola recognised that sacking Voss after this round will not be ideal, given a new coach will be handed the tough task of facing Collingwood in their first game in charge.

"You don't want a new coach running into that," he concluded.

But Voss knows that dire statistics will always prompt criticism.

"We're not winning, so obviously you expect some level of scrutiny," Voss said.

"You appreciate that's what's going to happen every single week when you come off a game you should win, and you don't end up finishing the job.

"But also what you have to do is continually look at what's real and what's not real.

Voss added: "The key part is doing it when it's getting tougher and how do we still execute when we need to through those critical times.

"Everything is telling me, if you look at behind-the-goal vision, the little things, being there for each other has been a real positive for us.

"You've also got to do it for the entirety of the game and that's what we've been challenged on. Some of that stuff has come up, some of those have been important conversations to have."

Still, he does not feel he is disconnected with the team, the club or supporters.

"No, I don't," he replied when asked if there was a divide.

"Where we're aligned on is we're not happy with where we're at."

Carlton will take on Adelaide in the opening match of Gather Round on Thursday.
