Pies star Josh Daicos felt 'sick' after almost ruining brother Nick Daicos' epic 100th game performance

Collingwood star Josh Daicos admits he felt "a bit sick" after giving away the free kick in the dying seconds that nearly cost his team the win on Thursday night.

With 15 seconds left on the clock and the Pies leading Carlton by six points, Daicos shoved Blues forward Talor Byrne to the ground at a stoppage, handing him a shot at goal.

Had Byrne converted, the game would have ended in a draw, but he narrowly missed and the Magpies survived.

It would've been doubly disappointing for Josh Daicos had Byrne kicked the goal, given the match was also his brother Nick Daicos' 100th game.

The superstar midfielder played a blinder in his milestone game, almost singlehandedly lifting Collingwood back into the game in the fourth quarter, picking up 13 disposals, winning three centre clearances, kicking a goal and adding two goal assists.

He finished with 39 disposals for the game, 12 more than any other player on the field, as the Pies reined in a 23-point deficit.

But his efforts would have only resulted in a draw, had Byrne kicked the goal, and it was his brother who gave the deciding free kick away.

"Reliving it now, I don't even want to look at the vision. I feel a bit sick talking about it just because we worked so hard as a team and for something like that to happen," Daicos told ABC Sport in the rooms after the win.

"I should remember he gave me one in the sternum and I bumped him back and he went down. Silly from me. You've got to keep your cool in those instances. Players are going to want to draw free kicks out of you, I don't know if much was in it, but at the end of the day it's a free kick maybe nowadays.

"I'm relieved he missed and we get the four points."

Josh, the older brother of the pair, admitted he was in awe of Nick Daicos' performance in the comeback.

"I never get sick of talking about him. It's been nice this week to reflect upon his first 100 games. He's a bit of a human highlight reel and when things are tough like they were tonight, he stood up for us," Daicos said.

"I love playing with him. it's something I don't take for granted and I'm looking forward to the next 100."

Nick Daicos' start to his career has been a borderline historic one. He has finished third, second and second in the last three Brownlow Medals, and made all three All-Australian teams.

It took record polling from Patrick Cripps in 2024 and Matt Rowell in 2025 to beat him, and a late-season injury in 2023 similarly cost him on Brownlow night.

He and Collingwood now prepare for next Saturday's traditional Anzac Day clash with Essendon.
