'Couldn't get near him': Dogs coach laments missing chance to meet Prince Harry, explains why star trio were chosen

On the list of things we expected to see this AFL season, Prince Harry kicking a footy with Western Bulldogs stars Adam Treloar, Matt Kennedy and Tom Liberatore on Whitten Oval was not amongst them.

But that's what we saw on Wednesday, with the Duke of Sussex trying his hand with the help of the trio of veterans.

His appearance at the club was part of a Movember campaign, raising awareness for men's mental health.

He kicked the footy with the trio, while The Wiggles performed in the background. It certainly wasn't your typical mid-week training run.

Kennedy can be seen wearing a Bulldogs scarf during the chat. He later revealed he was supposed to give it to the Duke of Sussex, but missed his chance and then became too nervous to hand it over.

Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge however revealed that the rest of the group, including himself, missed out on an audience with Prince Harry.

"Most of us missed out on meeting him which was a bit unfortunate, it would've been great," Beveridge told reporters on Thursday.

"I've got a healthy respect for both the princes with their history of commitment to military service and he had 10 years in the army, two tours of Afghanistan, I would have liked to have shaken his hand just to meet him.

"It was a special privilege for (the three players) and I think (Liberatore) was ideal to press the flesh. I hope he bowed his head, that's what you do with the royals, not sure he did, but it was great to have Prince Harry here."

Beveridge provided some insight into why Treloar, Kennedy and Liberatore in particular were chosen to meet with Harry, of all the possible representatives at the club.

"It was to do with fatherhood. All three of those lads are dads and that way why (we picked them)," he said.

"I couldn't get near him. I saw him from afar. It was good to be in his presence. I'm by no means a monarchist or a royalist, but I think he's still got a little aura about him. But no, I couldn't get near him."

Liberatore (hamstring) is expected to return for the Bulldogs as they prepare to take on Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Friday.
