'Heartbroken' West Coast captain Oscar Allen dedicates first win of 2025 to Selwood family

West Coast captain Oscar Allen has dedicated his side's win over St Kilda to Adam Selwood and his family.

It was an emotional weekend for the Eagles after learning of the 41-year-old club premiership player's passing.

Jamie Cripps, the last remaining West Coast player who played alongside Selwood, was particularly emotional during the minute's silence that preceded the match.

The Eagles produced a monumental effort, leading the whole game in the 108-80 victory.

It breaks a losing streak that dates back to the final month of the 2024 season.

Allen, who admitted he has battled his own mental demons this season, was emotional speaking about what the result meant to them in the aftermath.

"It's great to win a game of footy but we have lost a legend of our club, and I just want to send all love and support to the Selwood family," Allen told Fox Footy.

"I have struggled with my own mental battles this year. I just urge anyone out there who is struggling with anything please reach out, help-lines, friends please reach out to each other because we are heartbroken.

"Today was more than just footy for us, we spoke about this is about the West Coast community and we have lost one of our own."

Eagles coach Andrew McQualter also paid tribute after the game.

"It's been one of the most emotional periods of my life and for many others it's incredibly challenging. I want to pay my respects to the Selwood family," he said.

Allen kicked two goals and took four marks in the win, while Brady Hough led his team with 24 disposals.

St Kilda piled up numbers in what was ultimately their worst performance of the season.

Jack Sinclair finished with 38 touches, Rowan Marshall had 27 and 40 hit-outs, while Jack Higgins kicked five goals.
