Matthew Lloyd hated the way Essendon moved the ball against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night, believing the Dogs "humiliated" his old side during their 91-point loss.

It was a one-sided affair under the roof at Marvel Stadium, with Luke Beveridge's mob kicking 11 of the first 12 goals.

Lloyd pointed out the difference between the Bulldogs' direct and attacking ball movement, and the Dons' slow and backwards style that ultimately proved ineffective.

"There was a huge gap between the two clubs last night. 61 entries to 37 inside 50," Lloyd told Nine's Sunday Footy Show.

"I want to look at the ball movement. For the Bulldogs, there was no messing around. Direct, using the corridor, straight inside 50.

"I think that's an issue with the Bombers. I know they've had a solid five or six weeks.

"I hate teams going backwards. I hate teams giving up ground. (Essendon) go to the wings a lot and go sideways. I talked about the Bomber crabs. There's a lot of crabs. They kick it backwards and sideways.

"Teams want you to go to the wing. The Dogs want that. That's what Collingwood does. They just set up their whole team defence around you.

"(The Bombers) go to the boundary. The Dogs are going 'great, we've got you exactly where we want you'. The Bombers try and look and get it out. Eventually they cause a turnover.

"Ball goes back over the top. They just toyed with them. This was humiliating for the Bombers. They were taught a lesson last night."

Essendon had won five of their last six coming into round 10, with hype building around their top eight credentials.

Lloyd however believes people generally overreacted to wins over poorer teams.

"I think people got a bit carried away with that Sydney win last week. They've only beaten teams in that bottom six or seven," Lloyd said.

The Dons will hope to bounce back on the big stage in round 11 when they take on Richmond in the traditional Dreamtime at the 'G game.
