New Melbourne Demons boss labels appointment leak 'not acceptable', reveals 'support' for Goodwin

New Melbourne Demons chief executive officer Paul Guerra hasn't taken long to put his foot down at the club.
Guerra's appointment to the club was broken on Channel Seven before the Demons were able to announce it.
Straight off the bat on Nine's Footy Classified, Eddie McGuire asked the incoming Melbourne boss how he would handle the leak.

"I think we put this in perspective, it was held quiet for the whole period that I was going through the process, it got out about an hour early," he said.
"It's not acceptable and when we get inside the club we'll work out what happened there. We're going to be about looking forward and about excellence."

Guerra comes to the club at a precarious time. The Demons are currently 15th on the AFL ladder and have been embroiled in a number of issues at board level.
On-field performances haven't been acceptable, with star midfielder Christian Petracca wanting out of the club last year and constant speculation about premiership onballer Clayton Oliver's contract.

The future of Simon Goodwin has come into question as a result, but Guerra backed him.

"I spoke to Simon at about quarter to seven this morning and he was already out at Casey fields, he texted me at about quarter to six on his way out there so I had a good conversation with Simon," he said.
"I think we need to be really respectful of Simon Goodwin, he won a premiership for this club as coach five years ago, he won two premierships as a player.
"My conversation with Simon was around what support do you need to make sure we win another two, three, four or five flags before you finish up at the Melbourne Football Club."
The Demons next face embattled West Coast on Saturday.
