The West Coast Eagles will be hoping Harley Reid is not set for a lengthy stint on the sidelines after he was forced to leave the field with an ankle injury against Fremantle.

Reid was assisted off by trainers in the fourth term after he was brought to the floor in a tackle and caught awkwardly under Fremantle defender Karl Worner.

The 20-year-old struggled to place any weight on his ankle as he was assisted from the field but did eventually manage to limp to West Coast's changerooms.

At the time of the tackle, there was no clear impact or visible discomfort on Reid's face.

However, the Eagles will now be waiting on the results of his scans.

"I just chatted to him - he's hurt his ankle," West Coast coach Andrew McQualter said.

"I probably don't have much more information than that.

"You can see Harley put no weight on it as he was coming off, and then he was able to walk off. We'll go away, scan it and see."

McQualter admitted he was impressed by Reid's performance prior to the injury, which included being met by a chorus of boos as he attempted to kick a goal.

Reid nailed what was his second goal of the match with little concern and was quick to respond to the crowd's reaction, signalling for them to quieten down.

"I thought we saw a selfless version today of Harley," his coach said.

"We've spoken a lot about building a team and being a team player... so it's pleasing to see that come through."

Still, the Dockers proved too strong on Saturday evening and claimed a 18.18 (126) to 12.5 (77) victory.
