'Loved every minute': Sydney Swans lock down Chad Warner on two-year contract extension

The speculation surrounding Chad Warner's future has been put to bed, with the Sydney Swans locking down the gun midfielder for a further two seasons.

The 23-year-old had been heavily linked to a return home to WA over the past few months, but has inked a fresh contract that keeps him in red and white until 2027.

It's believed both West Coast and Fremantle were in the mix to sign him.

The deal is believed to be worth $1.4 million per season.

According to 9News Melbourne's Tom Morris, the club and Warner's teammates had been confident for a number of months that he would re-commit.

The club confirmed the news on Thursday afternoon.

"I'm really happy to be staying," Warner said.

"I've loved every minute of my time at the Swans and I'm excited for what's ahead.

"From the moment I arrived six years ago all the people – the players, coaches, and staff – have embraced me and helped me feel at home. I have great belief in the direction we are heading and know we have exciting times to come."

Warner has kicked 85 goals in 89 appearances for the Swans since making his debut during the 2020 season and made the All-Australian team last year.

"Chad is an elite talent with an exceptional work ethic, so we are rapt to have him commit to Sydney for a further two years," general manager Leon Cameron said.

"He is a popular and respected member of our playing group, who has been a key contributor in our midfield for several seasons now.

"At just 23, Chad has already made a huge impact, and with his best football still ahead of him, we're excited to see his journey continue in Sydney."

Sydney will take on the Gold Coast Suns on Sunday afternoon.
