'I strongly believe we will come good': Blues boss rules out 'panic', speaks on De Koning's future

Carlton CEO Brian Cook has ruled out 'panic' within the four walls at the club, despite the club's winless start to the season.

The Blues, historically, have not shied away from sacking senior coaches, moving on from David Teague, Brendon Bolton, Mick Malthouse and Brett Ratten since 2012.

Speaking on radio before the loss to Collingwood on Thursday night however, Cook said any continued struggles would be met with a level head and an intent to stay strong.

"By-and-large you have got to stick to the plan," Cook told 3AW.

"You need to tweak the plan when it needs to be tweaked. If that's stability, that's good.

"Admittedly (being winless) is not a good place. We get that, but we are a capable squad, we just haven't been consistent.

"I'm not the coach, but there's lots of reasons for that. I strongly believe we will come good. We've been in front at half time of every game. We could have won every game and yet we've lost (them all).

"I'm not trying to make excuses, don't get me wrong I'm disappointed, but it's only week four.

"We will continue to train well, hopefully win a game or two, but if we don't win games, what will we do? We'll probably keep doing a lot of what we're doing now and not panic."

Cook said in the pre-season that the club's aim was to finish in the top four and says nothing has changed at this point.

"That's our ambition," the veteran CEO said.

"If we don't make it, of course there would be some questions asked and you'd come up with some answers. Logical, rational answers."

Ruckman Tom De Koning's future is an enormous factor in all of this. He is a free agent at the end of the season and reportedly is weighing up a $1.7M per year offer from St Kilda.

Cook said the 25-year-old does want to remain at Princes Park.

"We're comfortable at the moment. He wants to stay. We'll do everything we can to keep him," he said.

"It's a tough decision for him. No matter what our offer is we won't be able to (match the highest offer)."

Cook will hand the reins over to veteran administrator Graham Wright at the end of the season.

Wright has overseen premierships at both Hawthorn and Collingwood in the 21st century.
