Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli puts out fued between his club and new Cat Bailey Smith

Western Bulldogs skipper Marcus Bontempelli admits he'll still keep "strong" connections with a handful of outgoing teammates.

Despite Bailey Smith, Jack Macrae and Caleb Daniel all moving to new clubs during the AFL trade period, it won't faze the midfielder going into the 2025 season.

"You sort of can't take any of it too personally, you've just got to move on," Bontempelli said on Saturday.

"But I've got strong relationships with a bunch of those guys that will probably stand the test of time."

Macrae will pull on the red, white and black of St Kilda in 2025, where he'll likely take on a full-time role in their young midfield in a bid for their first flag since 1966.

Meantime, Bontempelli's 2016 premiership teammate Daniel has headed to North Melbourne, after failing to find a permanent spot in Dogs coach Luke Beveridge's best 22 across the last few years.

Smith opted to make the move down the highway to join Geelong after a year on the sidelines due to a ruptured ACL.

And it was Smith's move that left a sour taste in some Dogs' fans mouths.

"He probably grew apart to some extent," Bontempelli told 7.

"There was definitely elements of that (trade) that you could see coming."

But the 2016 premiership player has other things on his mind, as he comes out of contract at the end of next season.

"I haven't thought about it too much," he said.

But Carlton key forward Charlie Curnow was quick to offer up a spot at his club, if things change for the Dogs stalwart next year.

"Come to the Blues," Curnow joked.

Curnow missed the Blues elimination final loss to eventual premiers Brisbane with an ankle injury, which he underwent surgery on post season.

"I'm back running and training now, in at the club. We're ready to go," he said.

The Bulldogs will celebrate their 100th anniversary next year.
