Rising Star hopes dashed as Harley Reid's two-game suspension upheld at AFL tribunal

UPDATED: Harley Reid's two-game suspension for a sling tackle against St Kilda has been upheld at the AFL tribunal on Tuesday night.
The rookie West Coast Eagles star will miss the next two matches and has now been ruled ineligible to win the AFL's Rising Star award.
Reid was charged for a dangerous tackle on Darcy Wilson and despite contesting the charge, the tribunal stuck with the initial verdict after a lengthy deliberation.

Reid was looking for a one-game ban, which would have still dashed his hopes of winning the award.

The 19-year-old was rated a red-hot chance of being crowned the 2024 Rising Star prior to the incident last weekend.
A frustrated Reid slung Wilson into the Optus Stadium turf during West Coast's 14-point loss to the Saints on Saturday afternoon.
The act was deemed as careless conduct, high impact and high contact.
At the time, it cost Reid a free kick, but has now cost him a likely win on a bigger scale.

Reid was starring in the first half for West Coast, collecting 17 disposals and seven clearances.
That was before St Kilda coach Ross Lyon ran Marcus Winghager as a tag in the second half. After half time, a clearly frustrated Reid was held to just three touches.
Meantime, Wilson was cleared to return to play in the final term, as he helped St Kilda to their fourth win of the season.
