Ultimate test: We stepped out in heeled Crocs

While Crocs are becoming more and more ubiquitous, the more outlandish styles are still a rare sight. While I've spotted some on social media and a pair or two on the train, I wasn't so sure if anyone was investing in shoes like the Siren Clogs.

Then I saw that Camille wears a similar pair in the latest season of Emily in Paris, and given she is the most fashionable character (don't at me), I figured the trend was here to stay. But I needed key questions answered: are they comfortable? And does comfort justify the price?

So, I tried the Crocs Siren Clogs so I could tell you myself.

Crocs Siren Clogs in Pink Crush

I was sent a pair of the Siren Clogs in Pink Crush, which is one of the brightest Crocs hues out there.

At first sight, the sheer pinkness almost put me off, but my flat clogs were much the same when I first saw them. I've realised I don't like naked Crocs – I find curating the Jibbitz to be half the fun of wearing them. So, by the time I'd stabbed in some rubber flowers, hearts and teddies, I was much more compelled to take them for a spin.

How were they to wear?

My initial observation was that they were comfy on the feet, although heavier than Classic Clogs. They have the same insole and holey upper – they're just raised on a platform, which made me a little unsure when it came to moving.

The platform is almost 9cm in height, which shocked me. As a short girl who cannot walk in anything above a 2cm heel, I felt pretty amazing moving around in these with relative ease.

The Clogs are pretty easy to walk in, with the sole curving forward up the toe, creating a sensation that rocks you forward as you move. Once you're certain you're not going to topple over, they're quite comfortable for simple walking. However, I have fallen downstairs attempting to wear heels before, so my ingrained fear of injuring myself caused a hurdle with the shoes.

What I loved about the Crocs:

• Their appearance: These shoes are very bright and fun, a great way to stand out. I felt a little self-conscious walking around my office while wearing them, but they're designed to be obvious, which is part of the Crocs experience.
• The height: Nine centimetres feels too good to be true. As a properly short girl, I've always known heels are my only option if I want to give off the illusion of height. It makes me a little sad that I find walking in them so difficult, so the Crocs won me over with this point.
• They're trendy: While Crocs will always have dissenters, platforms are having a moment. Pocket-rocket popstar Sabrina Carpenter is rarely seen out of a pair of platform shoes, and the wacky nature of the Siren Clogs is also reminiscent of something singer Chappell Roan might wear in one of her over-the-top ensembles.

Things I wouldn't do in the Crocs:

• Walk long distances: I suppose this goes without saying given no one would pull these bad boys out for a hike. But for me, 'long distances' can be incorporated into my day. Since I can be wobbly in anything that isn't ground-level, I would hesitate to wear these on my 10-minute morning walk to the bus stop.
• Drive: "You try driving in platforms," goes the infamous quote from Cher in Clueless as she tries to defend her bad driving. To her, I say no thank you. These bulky soles are getting nowhere near the pedals.
• Dance: I'm happy to take on the Sabrina/Chappell look without the performance. Walking and standing are great, anything more is hoping for too much.

My final thoughts

Overall, the Crocs Siren Clogs feel like the shoe equivalent of 'standing jeans'. Most women have a pair of jeans they wear for standing only, which feel too tight the second they sit down. While I'd be thrilled to be nine centimetres taller every day of my life, I'd have to be really choosy about where to wear the Crocs lest the height became too much to walk in comfortably.

While they're not perfect, they are the best 'heels' I've worn. I might just need them in a colour that's a touch easier to style.
