Woman grappling with home reno decision receives advice from an unexpected source

A UK woman who was having trouble deciding what colour to paint her front door has received advice from a surprising source.

Elizabeth Pocklington, a teacher who lives in Nottingham, had painted swatches on her black front door.

She was trying to decide which shade of light green, pale pink or beige would best suit.

One day, Pocklington returned home to find a note from her local postal worker.

The woman had used a 'Sorry We Missed You Card' to write: "Second green up from the bottom looks best."

Pocklington shared a photo of the note on Twitter, writing: "We were struggling to choose a front door colour... thank you to the postie for helping us out."

However, by the time Pocklington had received the note, she had already decided on the middle beige shade.

"I'd ordered the colour about a week and a half ago but I don't know whether to change it or not now," she told the BBC.

"Love this, I bet the postie had a little smile as they posted it," one of the teacher's Twitter followers commented.

Another writes: "They obviously have seen a few doors in their time, I'd do it that colour and leave a big bar of Dairy Milk out for their great advice."

Others left their own suggestion for which colour would suit, with two people suggesting "the top one".

"They're the door expert," one person said of the postal worker's advice.

When asked what colour she ended up painting it, Pocklington shared the following photos:

One of her Twitter followers asked after the light green shade the postal worker had suggested, and Pocklington informed them it was "Lichen by @FarrowandBall".

Others asked for advice on how to go about painting their own doors.

"Out of interest Elizabeth I am planning on paining our black front door (some shade of grey or whatever my wife tells me) did you use a primer or just sand down and apply? #paint advice," one asks.

Pocklington answers: "Heat gunned the old paint off, sanded, primed then applied."
