Woman set on fire by ex-boyfriend dies after 59 operations and 2 years in hospital

Judy Malinowski died on Tuesday, after her ex-boyfriend doused her in petrol and set alight, leaving her with third and fourth degree burns to 90 percent of her body.

The 33-year-old has spent the past two years suffering in hospital as a result of the incident, which took place in August 2015.

The former beauty queen's mother, Bonnie Bowes, confirmed her death to local news station NBC4i, saying: “That child suffered for two years to tell her own story, who has the strength to do it?”

Dan Bowes, her step-father told The Columbus Dispatch: “No one expected that she’d make it 48 hours. And this is day 696.”

Judy, a mother-of-two, defied the doctors to survive as long as she did and underwent 59 operations over the past couple of years in hospital.
