Scam caller gets more than he bargained for during recent attempt to fleece mum of money

A woman in the US has played a prank on a scam caller by pretending to be live on TV during the call and everyone is loving it.

The woman, who shares content on TikTok @maverickmother, has shared a video of the prank along with the description: "Got to do this."

In the video we see the woman on speaker phone and hear a man say: "Okay and the card has your name on it?"

She says it does and then the man asked: "Alright go ahead with the number please?"

It's at this point that she dramatically counts down "3, 2, 1" as is done ahead of live TV segments and then she put on her best broadcaster voice and said: "Good evening. We are live on television right now with an investigation into scam callers.

"We have the FBI on the line, they are tracking this phone number as we speak."

She then addresses the scam caller, asking: "Sir, what is your full name again?"

She is met with silence and can't contain her laughter at his reaction. He then ends the call.

Her video has been viewed 2.3 million times by appreciative followers, many of whom have received similar calls from scammers.

Many others played similar pranks on their scam callers. One man shared: "I once wasted 45 mins of this guy's time, talking like an old man."

"I now actually get annoyed when they hang up so quickly," added another.

"My go to is 'Hello, this is Saint Florence Emergency Nursing Service, This is- I've never gotten past that," another commented.

On person wrote: "we had a scammed call multiple times until my mum had enough and blew on a whistle as hard as she could, they stopped calling after that."

'Last time I let them listen Britney Spears on full volume," added another.

"I'm always having a good time with them, short talks, sometimes I sing to them," another shared.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has confirmed scam calls and texts are increasing, with approximately six million each month.
