Woman found guilty again after pretending to be a man to have sex with female friend

Gayle Newland, a graduate who pretended to be a man to sleep with her friend, has been found guilty on three counts of sexual assault in a retrial this week.

The 27-year-old from Cheshire, UK faced Manchester Crown Court. After having her first conviction from November 2015 overturned by the Court of Appeal judges last year, she was granted another trial.

However, on Thursday the jurors in the second trial found her guilty on three of the four charges, with those she was convicted of involving the use of a prosthetic penis to have sex with a female friend, who was made to believe Gayle was a man named Kye Carlo Fortune.

The deception took place while Gayle attended Chester University in 2013.

She became best friends with the victim, who cannot be named, before catfishing her using a fake Facebook profile she had created when she was 15.

Gayle pretended to be a half-Filipino, half-Latino man named Kye and used an American man's photos and videos for the social media profile.
