TV's Wendy Kingston: my life isn't as perfect as it looks on Instagram
If it's 9:45pm, there's a high chance I'm hanging out washing. In the dark.
Such is the glamorous TV presenter world I live in.
On Instagram, I certainly look like I have my life together: look at my fabulous new hair cut, check out the new top I'm wearing.
The reality though is quite different. I'm winning at life if I make it to work each day. Ten bonus points if I'm actually on time. A pat on the back if I remembered my shoes!
I have three children. Four, two and this week Mia turned one. I've been reading Nine Gold Coast News for six months now and working five afternoons a week. That's so many numbers in one paragraph my head now hurts.
Returning to work this time has been hard. Each day I am wracked with guilt I'm away from my three babies .. yet some days so deliciously excited about the prospect of peeing alone. I desperately miss my old job on Weekend Today in Sydney - but also can't imagine how I would raise my children without my beautiful family literally down the road. The logistics of organising three little lives when I get called into work early is like no other marathon I have run before. The result: heart palpitations and using the car air conditioning system as a hair dryer.
I survive because of coffee #fact.
These days I can even rationalise the amount of caffeine I drink. One coffee per child, per day seems ok, right? That also might explain why - 10 seconds before our evening bulletin goes to air - you'll find me humming the Peppa Pig theme song .. without realising it. By 530pm I am often delirious and tired. REALLY tired. An interesting combination for live TV.
I've been called a 'Super Mum' a lot since returning from maternity leave... it's so far from the actual truth but I politely laugh it off.
If I'm honest, some days I feel like an utter failure. A jack of all trades and a master of none. Sort of good at my job and sort of good at being a mum .. angst over wanting to do more as a journalist (like write this article - which has taken me weeks to get around to!) and angst over writing it while I should be playing with my daughter.
But let's just keep this all between you and me - because, after all, I have a ridiculously glamorous TV persona to uphold.
